About this site

Family Survival is a resilience hub for families spread across many parts of the United States. Its one job is to get clear, life-saving information to people fast.

How the guides are written

• Every figure has a source. Numbers in brackets link to the source list at the bottom of each guide, and the sources page lists all of them.
• Safety-critical numbers are defined once. Bleach doses, boil times, generator distances, and food-safety hours come from a single checked list, shown as critical fact boxes.
• Every section covers every region. Where a point is widely accepted practice rather than a figure from one source, it is marked General guidance.
• Content was checked against its sources on 2026-09-21. Guidance changes, so each guide shows the date it was last reviewed.

Privacy

The public guides have no ads or third-party tracking scripts. The location preference cookie holds only your selected state, territory, region, or local-area identifier. You can clear your choice using the location controls above or on the regions page. Private family accounts use separate security and sign-in cookies.

Basic, cookie-free analytics

We use self-hosted Umami to understand which public reading pages are useful. It receives the public page path, referring website origin (never its path), and basic browser and device information. It derives approximate country and estimated daily visits. Visit estimates use a daily identifier derived from browser and network information; this is not a guarantee of anonymity. Raw IP addresses are not stored in the analytics database. There are no analytics cookies, persistent browser identifiers, cross-site tracking, session recordings, advertising profiles, or collection of names, email addresses, page titles, or form contents.

Only a fixed list of public guide and information pages is counted. Private accounts, family plans, assessments, contact pages, forms, tools, location controls, search, and this privacy page are not counted. Visits with query strings or fragments are excluded entirely, so those values are never sent. Detailed analytics is pruned daily at a 90-day cutoff, with up to seven further days in restricted server-local backups. Access is restricted to the site operator.

On eligible public reading pages only, we also count a fixed set of link intents: the guide index, sources, and water standards. Only a fixed event name is added to the public-page payload, never link text or target URL values. Each event kind is counted at most once per full navigation. These are navigation intents, not completed assessments, accounts or plans. No location controls, regional selections, forms or tools are measured. Goals and funnels summarize the same bounded public counts and do not add tracking.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control automatically disable analytics. You can also disable it in this browser below. This saves only your opt-out preference in local browser storage; if that preference cannot be checked, analytics stays off. Clearing browser storage removes the saved preference.
